Description
Represents future rock slide warning systems. These systems will provide warnings to law enforcement agencies and the public of rock slide conditions and the usability of roads in rock slide prone areas. Electronic sensors such as ultrasonic, geophones, tilt sensors and environmental sensor stations will be used to detect and identify the risk of nearby rock slides, while vehicle detection sensors detect the number of vehicles in the rock slide prone areas. These sensors will then send a warning message to law enforcement or maintenance personnel about the road closure and automatically activate access control gates in order to stop the public from entering the prone area. DMS messages can also be posted by public agencies to convey the road conditions to the public. Systems are proposed along the US–67 Corridor.

Roadway Warning |
'Roadway Warning' includes the field equipment used to warn drivers approaching hazards on a roadway. Warnings may be generated in response to roadway weather conditions, road surface conditions, traffic conditions including queues, obstacles or animals in the roadway, and any other transient events that can be sensed. The equipment monitors traffic and roadway conditions and may send data to a Traffic Management Center for processing or may process it to determine when a warning should be issued. When it is determined that a warning should be issued, the equipment is used to alert approaching drivers via dynamic warning signs, flashing lights, in–vehicle messages, etc. |
