El Paso MPO staff is actively participating in the freight plans for New Mexico and Texas, Including identifying critical corridors at state and local level. As part of the 2022 Texas Freight Plan development, MPO staff has submitted to TxDOT six proposed Critical Urban Freight Corridors (CUFC) taking into consideration the following four categories. H- Connects and intermodal facility to the Primary Highway Freight System (PHFS).

I- Located within a corridor of a route on the PHFS and provides an alternative highway option important to goods movement

J- Serves a major freight generator, logistic center or manufacturing and warehouse industrial land

K- Corridor that is important to the movement of freight within the region, as determined by the MPO or the State

For the New Mexico side, MPO staff coordinated with NMDOT to identify roads that needed to be designated CUFC and Critical Rural Freight Corridors (CRFC) and connectors based on consistency with roads in Texas. Click here for the approval letter from NMDOT.
